Buy or use a bamboo or wooden toothbrush

Impact data

In Spain alone, 160 million plastic toothbrushes are sold every year, generating 2,800 tonnes of plastic waste, and conventional toothbrushes take between 400 and 1,000 years to break down — never fully disappearing, but turning into microplastics that end up in the oceans. The bamboo toothbrush changes everything: its handle biodegrades in around 180 days and is 100% compostable.

How to overcome the challenge

Buy — Choose a bamboo or wooden toothbrush with recycled nylon bristles and cardboard packaging.

Use it — Brush as normal; it lasts just as long as a plastic one, around 3 months.

Dispose of it right — When replacing it, remove the bristles (recycling bin) and compost the handle or put it in the organic waste bin.
